About Us/History

 Silver Spur Ranch (SSR) is located on approximately 3,000 acres in northwest Denton County, within the cities of Decatur and Sanger, Texas.  

SSR originally began hay farming in Ponder, Texas in 2005.  In 2019, the farming operation moved to its new location in Sanger, Texas and has been expanding across the Sanger/Decatur fields ever since.   

Expansion not only allowed for increased hay variety and production for SSR, but it also allowed for the addition of the SSR Registered Red Brangus and Registered Red Angus operation, which made its debut in 2022. 

Founded in 2005, Silver Spur Ranch is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture practices, protecting the environment, and improving the agriculture industry through innovation, technology, and continuous learning.   

SSR strives to be at the forefront of sustainable agriculture practices and responsible agriculture while also promoting the agricultural lifestyle for generations ahead.

Silver Spur Ranch raises and nurtures 

Registered Red Angus, Registered Red 

Brangus, and Ultra Reds. 

SSR strives to continually improve the herd DNA through artificial insemination as well as through three on-site registered Brangus cover bulls.  

Exceptional attributes are a focus at SSR.   SSR cows and heifers are selected and/or retained based on docility, superior maternal characteristics and heat adaptability.  Those traits combined with good foraging and survivability skills are a must for the entire herd, including the adult Brangus bulls and bull calves.

 SSR offers a range of hay products.

SSR is constantly innovating and improving products to meet the needs of customers while also promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

Owners, Tommy & Lisa McAden, believe in giving back to the community by promoting those in the agriculture business, particularly the youth, both in the local scene and beyond.   SSR has partnered and donated to various non-profits serving the local agriculture community as well donating to the local high school FFA.

Tommy & Lisa McAden are also the founders and ongoing Platinum Sponsors of the Silver Spur Open Fishing Tournament. The Silver Spur Open Fishing Tournament celebrated its 4th annual event to raise funds to help under privileged youth.  The Silver Spur Open has helped raise almost $200,000 in the past four years.
